For gosh sakes, Gianni, don't be a cheapskate; put the dern Waverlys on it.  Give me a few hundred more reasons ($) not to buy it.

It's true, Dale.  I've also negotiated with the Chinese Gov't to send the right hand of the person that "assembled" it.  They were very understanding, and from what I hear, the person doesn't mind losing it as they'll give him a bigger bed in the dorm now, an extra chicken, 8 oz of rice MORE per week, and he can supervise.

Pretty sweet deal, I'd say.

I'm blown away by this marketing concept as well.  I mean, where's the resell potential?  What is the warrantee - a lifetime of repair by some assembly team who really didn't build it in the first place, some violin setup guy's best efforts to fix a problem?  I'm taking delivery of a made-for-me mandolin in a week or so.  I spec'd it 100 percent and can't wait.  Final price:  Under $3,000.00.  I can point you to several other builders who do custom work for under $3,000.00.  Also, don't loose sight: This is alot of money!  If I'm going to spend alot of money, there has to be an exit stratigy.  I mean look at the resell of a Martin Shenandoah (guitar).  They tried the same thing - Asian parts asembled in the US.  No way!

If this is for the new enthusiast, I say buy a Mid Mo or a Collings MT.  Forget the scroll and enjoy the music.

I can see it now.  A container of 'em comes off the ship in Long Beach and is unloaded, (by illegal immigrants).  They go to a shop where some guy (an illegal immigrant) sticks on a logo, some strings, and finally to finish it all up, a sticker on the back that says "Made in America".

For >$3, I'd rather have a hunk of coal and plastic made by that dude in VT.

Glad to see you here, Fendoman. I'm still loving that hemp strap on my Mid-Mo. I won't mention that 5-string item here, but that strap is great as well.

For other board members, Fendoman has a friend who is making hand-made hemp straps. These are great. I'm glad he has joined us here. Hope I don't sound like an "Oak Strap Whore."

Thanks Gary, I didn't want to just come on this board by saying, hey yall I got something to sell ya. We do make custom 100% hemp straps for instruments. We have a few mandolin straps made up right now. Feel free to email me if your interested. Hey and they are made in USA. Right here in Tennessee Valley.

Hey, you can sell whatever the heck you want here.  Just go over to the not-so-classifieds and post away.  That not-so-moderator is like totally laid back dude and you can get away with almost anything here.  :-)

Even the old, rusty F150 (caveat: the mandolin sticker has to stay on the bumper). smile/hide.gif
