I was trying to practice this ultra simple link into a tremelo double-stop the other night and getting nowhere.  The smoother I tried to get the picking the more tense I got and the worse it got. It just downward spiralled until I got frustrated, threw my pick on the desk, and let an exacerbated yell "I just can't do it".  Now I have never ever had that happen before where I was just plain ps$$ed while playing.

So my 5yo son who's watching TV walks over to me, gives me a big hug, like he won't let go and says "It's okay Daddy".  He knew I how frustrated I was and came over to help.

I've been working on that lick a bit more and am less frustrated but that isn't the point of this mail.

sometimes, you just have to move on to something different, and come back to the licks or songs that aren't working then. it's amazing what being relaxed will do for your playing.
about 20 years ago, i was trying to learn pedal steel. it was VERY frustrating, and one day, i was about to throw it out the second floor window. my roommate stopped me, and i put it away, and later sold it. i'm still waiting to relax enough to give it another try...
