Posted 14/06/2008 06:04:55 AM | | Hello all, I'm new here. I can't play the mandolin myself, but my partner has one and is a beginner.
We (try to) make our own music and have a little PC-based home recording studio, and I want to add some mandolin sounds to a particular song, but just have no idea how to get the particular style of playing I want.
This is hard to describe, but there are 2 songs I am so far aware of that have the exact style I want...
1. Theme From the Movie Manhole (by Grace Slick, on her solo album Manhole)...probably nobody knows this song at all, but about 2/3 of the way through (it's about 15 minutes long), a mandolin comes in.
2. Cornflake Girl (by Tori Amos). Right at the very beginning before the piano and vocals come in, there's a mandolin.
Ok, so both of these mandolins are played in a sort of very quick, almost trembly style. I want this style, but my partner cannot get it. I don't know how to advise her.
Does anyone know what I'm talking about and if so, how to do it??
Thanks so much!
