Horns and reeds were actually a pretty regular feature in western swing bands. All of those guys on the video played in Bob Wills' band back in the 40's. Have you heard the Billy Jack Wills discs? There's great trumpet playing throughout. I'm a big fan of the trumpet-Chet Baker and Dizzy Gillespie are two of my favorite musicians. I remember reading somewhere that Bill Wills left about 500 Texas Playboys scattered around the country so many people played in his band over the years. I checked out some BW's videos on You Tube.
