Anyone else familiar with this band? My wife just gave me their cd "Shaken by a Low Sound" and it's really good. She thought it had mando on it (it doesn't). It has very interesting instrumentation - Guitar, Banjo, Bass, and Cello. The cello really adds some depth to the sound. The songs are a mix of blues ("Come on in my kitchen") and bluegrass ("Little Sadie") and folk ("Wind and Rain"). I really like the bluesier songs. The singer Aoife O'Donovan has a very sweet voice (like Allison Krauss), which I normally wouldn't like, but really like on these songs.

Recommended.

They've gotten a bit of air play on WUMB, the Boston folk station.  Certainly a very unique combo possibly leaning just a bit toward the obscure I guess.  It is certainly unusual to hear bowed cello in that genre of music.
I like it in moderation but I doubt it will have universal appeal (but who cares; the masses have bad taste anyway).

I saw Aoife O' Donovan with the Wayfaring Strangers (McGann, Glasser, Trishka, et.al.)  really ethereal, airy voice.  She was one of three female vocalists each of which had a unique styles.  She's on the second Strangers album "This Train".  If you like Crooked Still, you might check out that album.

Saw 'em live once at an outdoor show. The cello player is a strange little fellow, did a 'mini-set' of his own before the show doing all manner of weird and probably unholy things with his cello.

He who travels fastest goes alone.
