Posted 17/12/2007 07:29:47 AM | | Was up at the mountain skiing yesterday and for the first time saw an adult bald eagle in full plumage soaring over the lake near the mountain. I think I've seen at least one or two before but they were all juvenile brown; they don't get the distinctive white tail and head until they are about four years old. This one was unmistakable, white head and tail clear as day.
About 20 or 30 years ago, they reintroduced about a 1/2 dozen pairs to a large Quabin reservoir in western Mass. They have slowly been breeding and expanding their area. The mountain I ski is in central Mass about 50 or 75 miles east.
