You may not hear about this outside of Nevada. I've been to Wells, NV twice where the Nevada State Fiddle Contest is held. Its a small town of about 1400 people in Northern Nevada near Elko and off I-80.

My daughter won the Nevada State Jr. Fiddle Championship there two times (2005 & 2006). Its an interesting little town and I meet some of the local residents. Too bad there was quite a bit of damage to the historical section. It was like going back in time walking the sidewalks of this area. Fortunately, no one was seriously hurt, a broken arm and some cuts and bruises to some of the residents.

I did not know at the time that there was an earthquake in NV, but I knew something of seismic significance was happening.  I was doing a micro gravity survey in NC around 9:00 AM EST (about the time of the earthquake).  As I was checking the gravity meter for repeatability, I could not get the same readings.  I had to scrape the survey for the morning.  I checked again around lunch and still could not get repeatable readings.  I eventually called our company's senior geophysicist in the afternoon to let her know.  She checked the internet and told me there was a 6.0 magnitude earthquake in NV.

It's good to hear no one was seriously hurt during the seismic event.
