I don't consider myself a liberal, more a of a liberal sympathizer.  I feel for their causes but I just can't go there all the way.

Stuff like this kinda scares me.  I kinda believe in the old agage "Don't try to teach pigs to fly; it wastes your time and annoys the pigs".

If you give free college to every lazy good-for-nothin' that gets C's in highs school, you'll be pisses money down the toilet.  Now I believe that everyone who puts in effort deserves a chance but if you guarantee tuitions to everyone that barely makes it out of high school, they're be a bunch of kids sucking state money for two more years and just end up working as assistant manageers at McDonalds anyway.

I agree.  I think we should have social safety nets but some people want a hammock.

I agree, currently 50% of college freshman drop out their first year and never return. You'll start to see that go up to 70%+, there by watering down a college degree even more with grade inflation to push through those students who ordinarily wouldn't cut it.

College is not for everyone. The money should be aimed at those HS student with the right stuff for scholarships, not a handout to the C student who would not make it through the first semester!

We are already seeing this in the NV colleges with the Millinium Scholarships where 30% of incoming freshmen have to take remedial classes. In essence, this is a product recall of the local public school system. This scholarship for NV students requires atleast a B average, so these students are suppose to be NV's "best and brightest."

Give the same opportunity to a C student and see what happens, colleges will have to fill their schedules with so many bonehead classes, there will not be room for regular college-level courses!

I feel about 2 years of mandatory military service by all our young folks would be a godsend to this country in MANY ways.

Ditto TX, I spent 4 years in the Navy and it surely straighten out my young gun smartass ways. No E5 is going to put up with a wet nosed kid for long.

If W had at least one iota of balls, when he invaded Iraq, he would have reinstated the draft and call up 50K a year.  After four years, he'd a 200K ready.  Then he'd throw in a surge of 100K instead of 20K and say, I got 100K more where that came from if it's not enough.  And 100K after that when the next batch got called up.

But alas, he has no balls and called a war without the balls to fight it.  It's sad.  If he wasn't going to have the balls to commit the country 100%, he shouldn't have start the mess.
