I read a pretty good editorial the other day about dealing with the illegal immigrant problem through attrition.  Yeah, we don't have "12 million pairs of handcuffs".  We don't need them.  Gradually step up employment enforcement and most of the illegals will leave on their own when they don't have jobs.  

Then, take a look at the whole US employment system and if we really really need workers, then pass sane immigration legislation.  I have nothing against immigrants; it the illegal part.  Enforcement first and then reform is they way I'd like to see it dealt with.
